The media, which was there as Kachote
received her marching orders – can reveal that the separation was not
amicable. The Miss Zimbabwe Trust bluntly accused Kachote of being
reckless, a drunk and a liar, who does not deserve to represent Zimbabwe
on the world stage.
"We wouldn't want to have a queen who drinks and she doesn't know what
happens after – it's the exact opposite of probity," said Tendai Chirau,
the Miss Zimbabwe Trust spokesperson.
"She admitted that she might have had a picture taken with or by a
gentleman called Prosper. After that she became inconsistent and we
continued with our investigations until we reached this decision. On the
recording – she says that she was under the influence of alcohol and
she doesn't know what happened thereafter.
"When we were scouting for girls we asked them if they had ever posed
nude and some of them actually went away silently. As much as we want to
protect the girl child, we also want to make sure that they speak the
truth and are true to their word. Because we would be searching for an
ambassador to represent the nation, we need someone who speaks the
truth. Unfortunately some of the statements that Miss Kachote uttered
were inconsistent," said Chirau.
Miss Zimbabwe Trust chairperson Mrs Marry Chiwenga said the Trust had
tried to part ways with Kachote without much drama, even concealing
damaging information volunteered by the model during hearings.
However, after some unpleasant exchanges between Mrs Chiwenga and
Kachote at the Miss Zimbabwe Trust offices last Wednesday, the Trust
decided to unveil, to this publication, the three recordings of the
hearings they conducted with the model.
In one of the recordings, Kachote contradicted herself by first saying
she did not know who Prosper, the guy at the centre of the controversy,
was, before admitting that she had known him for over a year.
However, it is her narration of sordid details about getting drunk,
going over to Prosper's house, having sex and taking nude pictures,
which convinced the Miss Zimbabwe Trust board that Kachote had no
business being Miss World Zimbabwe.
Said Mrs Chiwenga: "I have always said to queens that whatever they
want the public or the rest of Zimbabwe to know is what we will let
everybody else know; whatever they do not want the people to know, I for
one, will not say because it is in their best interests. She is
employed by someone and I don't think we have any reason to ruin a
career that she has worked hard for. It is up to her to let the nation
know what she wants them to know.
"Your (Emily) probity will be questioned when judged against the things
you said when you were talking to Colonel Jenje and others – those were
reckless statements. I do not think those words will do you any good.
"A queen who gets drunk, goes to a home with an unknown man, unknown to
you, gets to his house, have sex with that person and the next day you
say I'm okay with it, it has never killed anybody. Even the people you
work with will respect you if you utter the right words.
"According to your first statement, you said you didn't know him, but
you went home with him, had sex with him and posed nude – this was your
first statement. In the second statement – you said you didn't know him,
you asked him to delete the photos and you did not take pictures. Which
is which?"
Emily hits back
The pencil slim model believes that the Miss Zimbabwe Trust chairperson
and her team never wanted her to be the queen and were from day one, on
a mission to dethrone her."
"Ever since I was crowned – they never supported me. I did not get any
resources; I used my own fuel and money to their functions. I would go
to the Miss Zimbabwe Trust offices and they would not even attend to
me," revealed Kachote. It also emerged that the young model did not even
enjoy a single moment as Miss World Zimbabwe. The nude pictures claims
were made a few minutes after she was crowned and the first hearing was
the very next day, April 26.
"They started asking me about the nude pictures, drinking and Prosper
soon after I had been crowned. Imagine, we had not slept properly for
days, I was tired, I don't even remember half the things I said and now
they are using that to pin me down. What happened, I'm not proud of it,
but I'm not ashamed of it either. If it's the truth that will set me
free, who I have sex with, It's not like I didn't know Prosper. I just
didn't know his surname."
The 25-year-old model vehemently denied ever posing nude and challenged the Miss Zimbabwe Trust to produce the evidence.
"I never posed nude. Having naked pictures taken by someone without my
consent is not the same as posing nude – point of correction," exploded
Emily, visibly angry and eyes gleaming with tears.
"In my understanding, posing is when you are taken a picture by
somebody with your consent. In this case I never posed for any nude
photo and I stand by that statement. If there is a photo I still want to
see it because I have not seen it. Apart from that I can only be in
breach of contract if I have posed nude, which I didn't," argued
Kachote.
The feisty former Miss Harare accused Mrs Chiwenga and her team of
lacking probity themselves. The Miss World Zimbabwe 2015 pageant was
running under the theme, "Probity".
"The Miss Zimbabwe Trust team were drinking in camp, right in front of
us. They did not lead by example and now they are persecuting me for
something that happened in 2013 or thereabout.
"Now they are manipulating their way out of this. I am the victim here
they are not protecting the girl child." Kachote, who posted on her
Facebook page last month that she would not be "blackmailed with the so
called nude pictures", grudgingly accepted her fate, vowing to stay
strong and fight for her name.
"Well, their decision is final but Emily Tatanga Kachote is a brand and
as a brand I have a right to defend myself. I maintain that I did not
pose for this photo – and as for drinking I last drank a long time ago.
What method are they using to measure my probity? Why should I be judged
based on being drunk in the past? Don't they get drunk too? This is who
I am.
"I'm a very unique woman – above all I would admit that I'm not a
perfect human being and I'll never be perfect – but I strive by all
means to do what's right, that's the woman I am. I am not afraid to
stand boldly for my brand, for Emily because this is me at the end of
the day.
"If there is any probity in this world I still stand for it."

Spirit of Zaka Man died 10 years ago speaks,Names killer relatives
A spirit medium claiming the identity of a Zaka man who allegedly died
nearly a decade ago manifested itself through a 24-year-old daughter
born out of wedlock, accusing its embittered aunt of casting a spell on
one of its surviving children.
The spirit medium identified itself as the late Crispen Mapurisa Chidembo, started manifesting itself through Miriam Sondayi, last week Wednesday, in Muchakagara Village in Nhedziwa, Chimanimani.
The incident came about as members of the Zion Apostolic Faith Mission Church conducted prayer sessions in the area.
The spirit medium had the guts of contacting our news crew, through its hotline, demanding the presence of its versatile news crew at the cleansing ceremony on Monday.
Though the journey had its hitches, the news crew managed to locate the appointed rendezvous.
On arrival at the Sondayi homestead, one could sense a sombre atmosphere. The news team was at the receiving end of hostile family members.
One Morris Sondayi, went a step further playing the family gatekeeper by demanding that The news crew reveal its source.
The head of the family Steven Sondayi told them that Miriam, while under a trance, had hinted that the Press would be coming for the story.
Prophet Peter ‘Baba Peace' Khumbula, who was supposed to exorcise the spirit medium took long to turn up, and after three hours of waiting, that is from 1300hrs to 1600hrs, the avenging spirit pleaded with The Reporters to be patient in order to get a clear understanding of the saga.
"Before you leave, I need you to get to the bottom of this issue. My name is Crispen Mapurisa Chidembo from Chapfuwa Village in Zaka.
"Ndiri kuda kuti vekwaSondayi vasunungure vana vangu. Kushungurudzika kuri kuita mwana wangu ndiko kwati ndive pano. (I want my in-laws, the Sondayi's to remove the spell cast on my children).
"My daughter is in trouble because of your charms. The Sondayi family summoned me here. My daughter is now cursed because of your charms. They are not coming from my side of the family and I want you to come out clean," demanded Chidembo's avenging spirit.
Chidembo's spirit pointed Miriam's aunt — Tinotenda Sondayi — accusing her of crude bitterness and hatred.
The spirit further accused Tinotenda of causing misfortunes in his daughter's life.
"Iwe (pointing at Tinotenda Sondayi), uri kuziva bundu rauinaro. Iwe wakasara uchinzi mai pavana uchapinda mudariro kuti ubvise zvawakaisa. Pupura pamusoro pechigumbu chaunicho nehanzvanzi yako (Steven).
"Nyaya yepfuma handiyo yandiunza pano asi inyaya yechigumbu chakasunga mai avo (Tinotenda). You are aware of your bitter grudge that you are nursing against your brother Steven. You were left as the mother in charge of the children.
"Yes, there is an issue concerning my daughter's bride price, but that is not why I am here. I am here because of the bitterness that caused you (Tinotenda) to cast a bad spell on my daughter," explained the avenging spirit.
When asked to respond to the allegation, Tinotenda at first denied, nursing any grudges against her brother. However, when pressed further by family members, she owned up and confessed.
Her grudge stemmed from the manner Steven squandered all the money paid for Miriam's lobola.
"I was the one left as the mother of the children, but you squandered all the bride price. I do not even know how much you got," Tinotenda fumed at Steven, then seated by her side.
It was, however, resolved by the second eldest brother, Morris that Steven pays damages (three goats) to Tinotenda to bury the hatchet.
Prophet Khumbula finally arrived around 5pm, midway the confession.
He performed cleansing rituals on Tinotenda and Miriam by tying two porcupine spikes with red, green and white yarn to make a cross and then poured some ointment oil into a dish of milk and started shouting in some incoherent tongues.
He recovered some strange objects, which he claimed to be a warthog's tooth in one of the bedrooms which used to be an old bedroom of Tinotenda's son, Albert.
The other object, collected hidden in the roof, could not be discerned.
Prophet Khumbula said the aunt had incision marks (nyora) which he vowed to remove on Tuesday to mark the completion of the cleansing process.
"We will remove the incision marks on you tomorrow (Tuesday), but please do not eat anything before coming to my shrine. You must bring a black and a white hen coupled with a white cloth and sand from a crossroad. There is an evil spirit on you that must be cleansed," said Prophet Khumbula.
The spirit medium, which was interjecting throughout the cleansing ceremony, expressed optimism that all the troubles would come to pass with the exposure of the truth.
Chidembo never formally married to the Sondayis.
He sired two children with the late Snikiwe (Miriam's mother).
His alleged spirit medium started manifesting itself on Miriam in May 2014.
Then it was demanding that his in-laws surrender his two children to his Zaka-based family, so that they become vested with their ancestry.
The Sondayis complied with the demand.
The children were welcomed by the Chidembos and all was well until last week Wednesday when the spirit resurfaced.
The spirit's host, Miriam, has not been eating or drinking water since last Wednesday.

WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY AROUND THE CORNER come lets celebrate and morn the journalists who die for freedom
World Press Freedom Day
3 May
Press Freedom
Freedom of Expression, a Human Right
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right as stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:"Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers."Media freedom and access to information feed into the wider development objective of empowering people. Empowerment is a multi-dimensional social and political process that helps people gain control over their own lives. This can only be achieved through access to accurate, fair and unbiased information, representing a plurality of opinions, and the means to actively communicate vertically and horizontally, thereby participating in the active life of the community. However, in order to make freedom of expression a reality, there must be:
- a legal and regulatory environment that allows for an open and pluralistic media sector to emerge;
- a political will to support the sector and rule of law to protect it;
- laws ensuring access to information, especially information in the public domain; and
- the necessary media literacy skills among news consumers to critically analyze and synthesize the information they receive to use it in their daily lives and to hold the media accountable for its actions.

The amazing young singers in the house
The two that sang ‘Zvekupenga’, one of
Zimbabwe’s biggest hit songs in 2014 have never met. For the first time
ever Chashe Musarurwa McTaggart and Tinashe Makura will be performing at HIFA this year.
Chashe and Tinashe will have their anticipated show at the HIFA Lay’s Global Stage this Saturday, May 2, 2015, at 12:30pm. The two met for the first time on 27 April on their rehearsals ahead of the concert.
When they did their hit song Chashe, now based in the United Kingdom, was living in Boston, USA and Tinashe was in Zimbabwe, having just returned from Malaysia where he’d made a number of useful connections. One of these was Anton Morgan, who is based in Asian,he put together the separate recordings they sent him to produce ‘Zvekupenga’.
The collaboration happened almost entirely over the Internet – Facebook and WhatsApp helping them record their catchy, world-class tune.
Perhaps appropriately, Zimbo Jam interviewed these two on Facebook Messenger, in anticipation of their concert.
Chashe says, "We first got in touch over Facebook actually. A mutual friend put us in touch, Mr Munya Dodo We talked about maybe doing a song together as we both felt that collaborating with other Zimbabwean musicians is a great way to support each other."
Tinashe listened to her music and loved it and this lead to the collaboration. On their interview on how they manage to release a song while they were in different countries this is what they have to say,Chashe,
"
"Well, we liaised over Skype and email a lot for pre- and post- production, sending audio files back and forth. I went into the studio with Anton Morgan on Skype for the whole session! I wasn't entirely convinced it would work, recording from another country, but we were pleasantly surprised by the turn out!"
"We definitely used the technology that was at our disposal. We sent tracks back and forth via the Internet. Anton (our producer) was in Malaysia, Chashe was in Boston, and I was in Harare. I remember bouncing off the first concept of the song over WhatsApp messages" that's according to Tinashe.
